I have lived at the North End of the West Downtown area for 1.5 years. The area has open spaces but lacks interaction spaces. I think there should be public spaces geared toward teens/young adults. I often see teens hanging out on the street waiting for a ride after school without a comfortable place to do so. Older college students frequent the Jay later at night since there is ample parking. But it would be nice to have this space be a connecting space not only between neighborhoods, but also between high-school/college age groups.

A small market/store would also be great, especially if it was connected with a eat-in deli, similar to Wholners.

Also, there really should be recycling available at our apartment complex. I should not have to load recyclables into my car and drive them into midtown.

24th Street should be included in the plans for a street car system in order to connect Creighton and the southern end of the focus area, and then extended to create a connection to both North and South Omaha. There should also be a VERY large area along 24th Street that would serve as a central community “market” where goods can be bought, traded and sold… i.e. big farmer’s market, swap meet, summer arts festival, etc. Green space could also be included at or near this “market” location.

Green spaces should include free WiFi. It would help distinguish Omaha as a next generation city, while allowing students and professionals to work outside.
