Look for long straight-aways in open spaces. Not a lot of corners – that can do some damage to the body.
Think really flat.

Mark distances on routes – perhaps not a start and end distance ‘forcing’ people to start at certain points. Explore a red line on the side walk that indicates full completion is 2 miles , a blue line that is 5 miles, etc. Perhaps it is instead that each city block is X distance.
Think really flat.
Encourage/incent companies to provide shower/locker room space for runners. Consider partnerships with companies that already have them. Work with Welcom.
Create common sense paths for me to find food on my lunch hour. Allow more food vendors (not just hot dogs – give me healthy options – maybe a salad bar!) along key routes of walking – I’m more likely to leave my office for food. Please don’t reward my healthy walk with fatty fast junk food.

Connect the river front trails from north to south and create more access points from downtown to get to the river trails.
Could a running route mimmic the bicycle routes? Keep the bikes on the street and the runners on the sidewalks. Maybe the running routes could mimmic the streetcar routes?

I would encourage some sort of lighting for early morning activity. Some people like to exercise before work, but they need to feel safe.

Well marked (clearly continuous and mile-marked)running trails would be so useful. The riverfront trail as-is feels choppy and blind.

The more safe, clean spaces there are for Omahans, the more people who are health contious will be willing to visit/move here.

Connect north downtown and south downtown on one or more north-south corridors between 10th and 24th Streets. A clear, marked, and safe path would help connect the two distinct areas of downtown. Link these paths to existing trails on the riverfront. This link could be an east-west path running between the new baseball stadium and the Qwest Center. It would be very helpful to have another ped bridge or other method to cross the railroad tracks between Cumming St./Abbot Dr. and the MLK bridge near the Qwest Center arena.

I think bike/skate routes and pedestrian routes should be separate and well marked to prevent accidents when they are on the same path, more trash cans to prevent litter, dog waste bags should be available for dog owners

More walking/running trails in the downtown & southeast (Little Italy) areas.
