We should have a large skatepark much like the ones the DC Skate Plaza Foundation are making. See: http://www.skateplaza.com/about/skate-spot/
    Thanks!

I think these are great ideas for skateparks.
It might be better to have these under the I-480 bridge, and have it be more a part of downtown “culture” rather than grouped in with team sports/leagues.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d be open for a skatepark anywhere downtown.

As the plan had suggested, HDR is looking at a 20,000 sq/ft area under I-480 for a possible skatepark location.

If you agree, post your support for a skatepark on this page:

Under 480 is a cool idea for recreation areas- they need to be less of a hide out and more engaging. Green space is still a hideout under a bridge.

INDOOR: Rock climbing gym, basketball, racquetball, tennis, volleyball, and soccer.

OUTDOOR: Something similar to Seymour Smith would be nice. Midtown and downtown residents should have a closer option rather than driving to Seymour, N.P. Dodge Park, or Kelly Complex.

Besides the typical softball, baseball, and soccer fields here is a list of other options to incorporate:

Disc golf, basketball courts, roller hockey, flag football fields, golf driving range, public swimming pool, dirt ramps and trails for bicycles, a challenging jungle gym and course for kids, sand volleyball, badminton, horseshoe pits, bocce ball, and an ice skating rink for the winter. BBQ grills, picnic tables, public restrooms, recycling trash cans, and covered areas for gatherings would be nice as well.

As long as it is deemed safe, (as far as lead and other contaminants that may be in the area) the area North of Abbott drive and East of 11th St. looks like it is perfect for the huge, open space needed for soccer fields, etc. …About four fields and include a public rec center, basketball courts and an extensive “park” too. The hotels will like this and the local residents will too. Be sure to connect the bike path and street car route with this area as well.

A skatepark downtown would be an amazing addition for skateboarders in the area. Skateboarding is such a fast growing sport in Omaha and it would find its use in the community. Take for example Nike professional skateboarder Paul Rodriguez’s new skatepark just recently built in L.A., it is very urban and does not look like your typical skatepark. The park could blend into the downtown environment and even be used for other events like concerts and various performances.

@Markus I get your drift on where you were going there. I often think of my past and use it as a means to analyze where I am and where I want to get to. Where I struggel is balancing it all out. How do you guys balance things out?
